Talisman is a symbol in various religions and folk beliefs that is believed to bring good luck to the owner or protect the owner from any objects that may cause misfortune or harm from spirits. Different ethnic group have different beliefs in talisman as according to their own cultures. For example, in the Western culture, rabbit’s foot, lucky coins, and crosses are considered talisman, while in Chinese Taoism, there are Taoist talismans, and in Confucianism, the tradition of wearing jade pendants is considered a form of talisman.

In the traditional Chinese Taoism culture, talismans are prepared via unique techniques, and are not merely passed down from folk beliefs. Taoist scriptures record the uses and merits of using each scripture and their main function in eliminating disasters. These are extraordinary energy of each scripture, but not merely one scripture can cover all functions. Each scripture has its origins for its character and corresponding relationship with the disasters. It aims to explain the start till end fate-affinity process. The concept of making talismans also shares similarities as the scriptures.

In Taiwan, many temples provide talismans for worshippers. These talismans usually feature the symbols of Tai Chi and the Eight Trigrams, as well as the name of the main deity of the temple. Typically, the talismans contain written spells or incense ash inside, to bless the wearer with safety. Click Here.

We cannot eliminate all disasters with just one talisman! It is necessary to calculate one’s fortune and understand where potential misfortune may occur in the near future. A personalized talisman is then prepared based on the aspect of misfortune or disasters to protect life. This is the correct concept of a talisman’s purpose and use.
